Knobstone Trail

The Knobstone Trail is the longest continuous hiking trail in Indiana. A total of 58 miles passing through the Knobstone Escarpment which is the most rugged terrain in Indiana. The trail intermittently follows the crest of this escarpment, rising 500 feet above surrounding forests and farmlands before the trail drops repeatedly into deep valleys.

  • Total Elevation Loss = 9,620 ft.
  • Total Elevation Change = 20,020 ft.

Trail Reroute

Message from Indiana DNR: Trail Reroute - A minor reroute has been made between mile 36 and the Oxley Trailhead. The reroute temporarily moves the trail away from a timber management area. The change will cause you to be on the road for a short distance. Expect the change to last several months.

Check the forum for all current trail conditions involving active erosion, slope, drainage, switchbacks, blazes, ditching/trenching, and significant damage from illegal use.
